Riding Out ..
Take a tour around the farm.

Polmartin Riding itself occupies around sixty acres of unspoilt Cornish landscape, offering stunning 360 degree views of the sea, moors and farmland. Riding includes hill tracks, woodland, field and lakeside as well as cross country jumps without ever leaving the farm.

On the farm is a track which winds through all of the fields, lakes, woods and hillsides. This allows riding in safety and without the worry of meeting any traffic, people or dogs. The result is a fabulous route to ride around. You can switch off and leave your worries and stress behind. As you amble around the track watching the birds, smelling the trees and breathing the clean air you could be a million miles away. Along the ride there are plenty of places to stop and take in the view, or get off have a rest and let your horse graze and drink and perhaps take a photo or two.

Off the farm is the surrounding tranquil and picturesque Cornish countryside to explore along small lanes with little or no traffic. We offer for the more experienced rider trail rides in nearby ancient woods. We box two horses and travel about ten minutes away. There we can go for long rides through the woodland, along trackways, across streams and over small obstacles. A true horseback adventure and everyone is accompanied by a qualified instructor.

Horse riding Lessons ..

Our riding lessons are varied and are matched to the students needs and ability. The maximum group we train is three riders ensuring that each gets the utmost from the lesson. We believe in giving our students confidence and building a relationship with their mounts.

Abilities or all ages, young or old are catered for, from beginner through to intermediate and advanced rider. Because of the small class sizes, the riders will never feel overlooked or under horsed. On arrival we ensure that the rider is comfortable with the horse, and that they are properly assessed and their goals for the lesson are achievable. We are then able to match the training to the riders individual profile.

Lessons are structured so that they can be properly debriefed afterwards. We can video the lesson so that the student can see for themselves what they are doing wrong and what they are doing right! Debriefing like this allows us to assess what would best assist the individual in achieving their riding goals. These may be taking a progressive riding test or participating in dressage events. The most important thing about riding at Polmartin Riding is that we don't dictate, we listen.

Young Riders ..

The Saturday, Sunday and Holiday Clubs at Polmartin Riding are dedicated to the young rider who really wants to learn about horses, not just riding. Students are expected to learn to muck out, clean tack, groom and help others by leading them. They will have a group lesson of an hour in the morning and in the afternoon a ride out on the farm. Every week they will learn a new topic in stable management, for example the vital signs of a horse, ie: heart rate. In riding we try to do new things such as exploring LeTrec which everyone loves.

We have lots of books to borrow and learn from. The young students are expected to explore themselves one topic a week and then share it with the rest of the group the following week. All of the Saturday and Sunday Club students are expected to take the BHS Progressive Riding Tests at the school.

Weekend Club runs on a Saturday and Sunday and Holiday Clubs run during school holidays. All cost £30 per day which is from 9am to 5pm. They are suitable for 8-16 year olds. At all times an adult is in charge of the young riders.
